Drama of Life and Death

The sages who came together to write the Upanishad set out to find the meaning of life and thought to themselves: “if the observer observes through the medium of consciousness, and the world is observed in consciousness, should not the same laws apply to both?”

Layers of awareness: 1) waking 2) dreaming 3) dreamless sleep

Interpretation:

1)    When awake the self in connection with the body and mind

2)    When dreaming the self is connected only to the body

3)    In the dreamless state, the self is detached from the body and mind

The sages say that a person should be awake during the dreamless state when the self is detached from the mind and body. When it is free from bounds and restrictions.

I have experienced this: SELF-REALIZATION.

I have seen my body and my consciousness detached.

To experience this, you need to be like a teenager, ready to risk it all. Not looking back or being hesitant. But why should we experience self-realization? When we are perfectly fine as we are?

“Just for the heaven of it”

But most importantly because every human questioning about it and has some of an idea about it. As human beings are eager to know, “who we are, what the universe is, and what the significance of the brief drama of life and death we play out against the backdrop of eternity.

You are what your deep, driving desire is.

As your desire is, so is your will.

As your will is, so is your deed.

As your deed is, so is your destiny.

(Brihadaranyaka IV.4.5.)

Human desire is so strong, that if we will to do so, so it will become.
